I then began my training as a general practitioner and achieved certification in 1993 entering full-time general practice.
I joined my NHS practice at Wingate Medical Centre on Merseyside in 1995, I have been there ever since. I am a GP trainer and became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2010 and a Fellow in 2018.
In 1998 I was given the opportunity to take part in a European Masters in Health Informatics, based at Manchester, Surrey and Rotterdam University. I then spent five years working in health informatics before becoming a primary care trust medical director in Knowsley.
I subsequently moved to take up post of director of strategy for an acute foundation trust before starting work with Liverpool Health Partners Academic Health Science Partnership until 2013.
In 2014 I joined the Babylon healthcare organisation initially as a general practitioner later becoming clinical champion for gender identity healthcare. This meant providing remote support and prescribing for the growing population of trans and non-binary individuals cared for by the largest practice in England. My patient satisfaction rating at Babylon is currently 4.9 out of 5 stars!
In 2017 I became involved in the care of transgender people whilst supporting the development of the trans-health Sefton service, and award-winning Primary Care initiative to improve healthcare for transgender people.
This service became the seed of the Cheshire Mersey adult gender identity collaborative (CMAGIC) which opened as an NHS England pilot clinic in January 2021 having been delayed by Covid.
I hold post as the clinical lead for the Cheshire and Merseyside NHS service, I am a member of the NHS England clinical reference group for gender identity healthcare, a member of World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) , a full member of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS) and a member of the Transgender Professional Association for Transgender Health (TPATH).
I am actively involved in supporting colleagues in general practice as well as undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training.
I am set to complete the first recognised accreditation for gender identity healthcare developed by the Royal College of Physicians and the University of London by late 2022.
